ASU Three Rivers Chancellor Steve Rook Announces Retirement, Accepts Presidency at Connors State College
MALVERN, Ark. — Arkansas State University Three Rivers Chancellor Dr. Steve Rook has announced his retirement from the institution, effective at the conclusion of the 2025–2026 academic year, after accepting the presidency at Connors State College in Oklahoma.
Dr. Rook has served as chancellor of ASU Three Rivers since 2016, when he was appointed president of the College of the Ouachitas. He later led the institution through its transition to Arkansas State University Three Rivers as part of the ASU System.
“Serving ASU Three Rivers has been one of the greatest honors of my career,” said Rook. “I am incredibly proud of what we have accomplished together to expand educational opportunities, strengthen workforce partnerships, and support student success. This institution and community will always hold a special place in my heart.”
During his tenure, Rook provided leadership for significant institutional growth and transformation. He oversaw system alignment with the ASU System, expansion of academic and technical programs, and increased workforce training initiatives to meet regional industry needs. Under his leadership, the college achieved enrollment growth, secured millions in grant funding, and strengthened partnerships that support economic development throughout the region.
Rook’s appointment as president of Connors State College follows a national search and reflects his decades of experience in higher education leadership, as well as his commitment to student success and community engagement.
“Dr. Rook’s leadership has had a lasting impact on ASU Three Rivers and the communities we serve,” said Rodney Allen, Chair, ASU Three Rivers Board of Visitors. “We are grateful for his years of service and wish him continued success in this next chapter.”
The ASU System will announce plans for leadership transition and a search for the next chancellor of ASU Three Rivers at a later date.
Rook, a native of Gould, Arkansas, began his tenure in Malvern in June 2016. He and his wife, Connie, have been active members of the community throughout their time at ASU Three Rivers.
